What is the ICRT?

A community of Responsible Tourism Practitioners in business, government, NGOs, conservation and heritage. The ICRT is for Responsible Tourism. Our work focuses on the principles of the Cape Town Declaration on Responsible Tourism in Destinations, we work in originating markets and destinations around the world, to harness tourism to make “better places for people to live in and for people to visit.” We work with governments, tour operators and accommodation providers to realise the aspirations of the Responsible Tourism Movement in which we have played a major part since 1997.

What are our goals?

The ICRT brings together all those who support the Principles of the Cape Town Declaration, there are sister organisations in a number of countries and others pursuing the idea of using tourism to make better places for people to live in and better places for people to visit.

What do we offer?

Our aspiration is to be a critical friend, raising issues but working together to find solutions, we seek to encourage and enable people to take responsibility for making the changes necessary to make tourism more sustainable. We research the issues around the sustainability of tourism and advocate solutions based on research and scholarly activity. We believe that evidence and clear thinking matters. Our short courses, Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, Masters and PhD in Responsible Tourism Management are taught at Leeds Metropolitan University.
